Born enslaved to Sultana, Robert was enslaved by James Waugh and his wife Elizabeth Robinette. He was a shoemaker by trade and a community activist. After the ending of slavery, Robert, commonly known as Bobin took charge and participated in the formation of two colored schools in Waughtown.
