He was born on August 24, 1932, in Pascagoula to Charles E. and Frances A. Tillman. "Benny" was the youngest of 17 children.
He was a loving father and grandfather and enjoyed being with his family. He was a self-employed carpenter. As an avid gardener, Ben had cultivated and grown thousands of banana trees. He also loved fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Adele Howard Tillman, 11 sisters, 5 brothers, and one great-grandchild, Alex McCann.
Survivors include his children, Marsha (Jerry) Stringer, David (Debbie) Tillman, James (Cherlyn) Tillman, Benjamin Emmitt Tillman, Jr., Sylvia "Annie" (Alvin) Sherrell, George (Leslie) Tillman.
Grandchildren, Renea (Joe) Rzonca, Anne Marie (Gary) Heffner, Jessica Stringer Flynn, Kathryn (Ben) Saegert, Melissa (Guy) McCann, Amy (John) Brown, Matt (Anna) Tillman, Michael Tillman, Cory (Shellie) Tillman, Cody Tillman (Grace), Crystal Tillman (TJ), Cassey (Deano) Waltman, April (Kevin) Zachary, Austin Sherrell, Seth (Crystal) Tillman, Jacob (Tiffany) Tillman, Savannah Tillman. 23 Great-grandchildren and 3 Great-great-grandchildren. And his special caregiver, Cynthia Eubanks.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 20, 2020, from 11 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Holder-Wells Funeral Home, Moss Point, MS. Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sam Jones officiating. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Burial will be at Jackson County Memorial Park. Due to Covid-19, social distancing is required.
