Fred was born Nov. 5, 1926, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Bernal and Bessie Muncy Hensley. He spent most of his youth in Clay County and Hazard, Ky., where he attended Buckhorn Academy. He was a Presbyterian. In 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a paratrooper and medical technician in the Asiatic Pacific theater during World War II until 1946.
He married Dixie Jean Brown on Feb. 25, 1949, in Fort Worth where they made their home. Always valuing knowledge and encouraging others to learn as much as they could, both Fred and Dixie attended Texas Wesleyan University while working full time. They graduated together with bachelor of science degrees in 1961.
Fred's strong work ethic and determination led him to various work experiences from the railroads in Kentucky, shipyards in Mobile, Ala., General Dynamics in Fort Worth, L.D. Bell High School in Hurst, where he taught math, and finally ending up as an entrepreneur at General Construction Automation and F. Hensley Inc.
Fred expressed a strong appreciation of nature and a special love for animals, especially his dogs. He and Dixie enjoyed many wonderful vacations and reunions with the Cartwrights, who are lifelong friends from Booneville, Miss.
The Booneville High School Class of 1947 made Fred an honorary member.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Bernice Combs.
Survivors: Wife of 63 years, Dixie Jean Brown Hensley; daughter, Dixie Dibley and husband, Larry; granddaughter, Brianne Dibley Tebay and husband, Jerry; grandson, Bryan Hensley Dibley and wife, Amory; great-grandchildren, Cooper and Chayse Tebay and Aerin Dibley; brother-in-law, James Combs; sisters-in-law, Barbara Muncy and husband, Jay, and Sue McGuire; and a host of loving and supportive nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
