After graduating from Los Angeles Business College in 1891 Everett had hopes of pursuing a Electrical Engineering degree at Stanford University but was unable to finance the expenses. He returned to Escondido and spent the rest of his life in agricultural related endeavors in the San Pasqual valley and eventually retired in Escondido with his wife Mary. He literally married the bosses daughter as he had worked for Mary's father B. B. Rockwood before their marriage in 1899.
Everett and Mary had four sons who were all born in the Rockwood house in San Pasqual. Everett and Mary built their own house across the street (CA78) and moved into it shortly after the birth of the youngest son Melvin (1909).
Everett and Mary eventually inherited half of the Rockwood estate and ran a dairy farm on the property until retiring in 1944 and moving to Escondido. The ranch was bought by Jack Haley who had gained fame as the tin man in the movie "The Wizard of Oz".
Everett always took an active part in everything for the good of the community. He was a member of the San Pasqual Literacy Society, was a school trustee of the East San Pasqual District, a trustee for the Escondido High School district, secretary-treasurer of the Texas Fever Eradication Association, secretary-treasurer and bookkeeper of the San Pasqual Creamery and president and director of the Qualitee Dairy Products Company of San Diego. He also helped organize the San Diego County Milk Producers.
