Jasper Newton Stockton enlisted in the Missouri Cavalry on November 1, 1863, and served as a blacksmith for Unit I during the Civil War. He was discharged June 30, 1865, and is described as having dark hair and a dark complexion. He suffered an injury to a finger at Millville, Missouri, in 1863. He is listed as 'deranged' in 1894. The family received Federal Pensions from 1865 to 1915.

Gravesite Details
According to the 1974 Index of name for Rice Cemetery, Jasper is buried next to his wife, but the stone that is supposed to be there is not. Stones for his wife and three young children are in the displayed photo.
