Angela Carbone Tallarida. Loving mother, grandmother and sister of Elkland, PA, died on December 5, 2001 at Mercy Suburban Hospital in Norristown, PA, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by her loving family. Angela was born in Cosoleto, Italy on February 11, 1914, the daughter of Catherine Sicare Carbone and Joseph Carbone; predeceasing her were her loving husband, Antonio; beloved siblings, Louis, Costentino, Ralph and Josephine Carbone; beloved granddaughter, Julie Burfield and beloved grandson, Anthony Pickett. Surviving are her children, Mary (James) Dimitry of Norristown, PA, Jack (Audrey) Tallarida of Cando, North Dakota and Catherine (Clinton) Burfield of Elkland, PA; sisters, Carmella Perri of Melbourne, Florida, Mary Papalia of Rockville Centre, Long Island; sisters-in-law, Sarah (Louis) Carbone and Shirley (Ralph) Carbone of Elkland, PA; grandchildren, Steven (Lisa) Dimitry, Linda (Norman) Kidd and Dannine (Raymond) Carpentier of Norristown, PA, Tony (Melinda) Tallarida of Corning, NY, Nicholas (Angie) Tallarida of Arizona, Catherine (Donald) Boyer of Lancaster, PA, Mary (Brian) Shay of Corning, NY, Jack (Theresa) Tallarida of Corning, NY, Angeline Pickett of Elkland, Teresa (Michael) Lacey of Rochester, MN, Mark (Jennifer) Burfield of Elkland and Michael Burfield of Elkland, PA; great grandchildren, Holly, Stephanie and James Dimitry, Nathan and Samantha Kidd, Kayla Dimitry, Giacomo, Richard, and Maurica Tallarida, Crista Tallarida, Allison Boyer, River Tallarida, Jesse Tallarida, Jennifer, Joseph and Rachel Lacey, Tera Shay, Kail Burfield; also many nieces and nephews. Angela received her formal education in Cosoleto, Italy. She came to the United States in 1930 at the age of 16 with her mother and 7 other siblings to join their father, Joseph in Hooversville, PA. She spoke many times of her transatlantic trip from Italy, Ellis Island and seeing the Statue of Liberty for the first time. The children and their mother were named, interviewed and pictured in an Italian New York City Newspaper as one of the largest and interesting families to make the immigration to the United States, a fact that Angela was very proud of. In 1936, she married Antonio Tallarida and moved to Elkland, PA to make their home. She lived there until Antonio's death in 1964. She lived in Hempstead Long Island, NY from 1966 to 1976, working as a seamstress at Abraham and Strauss Dept Store and as Head Seamstress of the Sewing Department at the South Nassau Community Hospital, Rockville Centre, Long Island, NY. She returned to Elkland, PA in 1976 to retiree. She lived in Forestview Manor from 1997 to 2000 at which time she moved to Norristown to live with her daughter, Mary Dimitry and her family. Angela was a communicate of St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church in Elkland, PA, St. Thomas Altar and Rosary Society and the over 63 Senior Citizen Club of Elkland, PA. She had also worked as an interpreter for a firm in Westfield, PA to a representative sent from Rome, Italy to work on their high tech equipment. Angela will be greatly missed by everyone whose life she touched. We will remember her wonderful sense of humor, her great love for her children and her many other family members. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a beautiful, independent, proud and confident woman who was deeply devoted to her family and instilled in them great family loyalty, love and pride. Calling hours will be Sunday December 9 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM, and 7:00 - 9:00 PM at the Kenyon Funeral Home, Elkland, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on December 10 at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Elkland, PA, Rev. Wieslaw Ziebacz, officiating. Committal will be at Highland Cemetery in Elkland, PA.
