Luania Woodward, 90, life-long resident of Canton (Cedar Ledge.) passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, June 25, 2006, at the DarWay Nursing Home in Estella, Pa. Luania was born Jan. 1, 1916, in Elmira, N.Y. As a young woman Luania grew up in the Canton area and graduated from Canton High School, class of 1934.

On June 2, 1937, she married Thad L. Woodward in Grover at the home of her parents, the late John and Hattie (Leonard) McCracken. For many years Mrs. Woodward assisted her husband with the operation of their poultry farm while also raising two children. She later retired in 1977 from Penn Troy Machine Co., where she was employed for several years as a bookkeeper.

Luania was a life member of the Grover Church of Christ and the Ogdensburg Grange No. 293. She loved music and served as the church's assistant organist for many years. Mrs. Woodward was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed quilting and spending the winter months in Ft. Meade, Fla.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 69 years, Thad; a daughter, Kathleen (Lawayne) High of Wellsburg, N.Y.; a son, Thad E. (Sheila) Woodward of Canton; five grandchildren, Darryl and Daniel High, Tami Hite, Tracy Froelich and Robert Woodward; seven great-grandchildren, Brock, Jerikah, Jakob and Lukas Hite, Owen Froelich, and Mason and Evan Woodward; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and dear friends in Florida.

Mrs. Woodward was predeceased by a granddaughter, Tina Woodward; four sisters, Leah Maroney, Marion Tobey, Esther LeVann and Bea Bailey; and a brother, John McCracken.

Her family invites friends to call noon to 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, at the Pepper Funeral Home, Springbrook Drive, in Canton. The funeral and committal service will follow at 1 p.m. with her pastor, Will Strunk, officiating. Burial will be in Grover Cemetery, Canton Township, Pa.

The family suggests that memorials in Mrs. Woodward's loving memory may be directed to the Grover Church of Christ, P.O. Box 83, Grover, Pa. 17735.
