BELLEVILLE - Marian Adams, age 87, of Belleville, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at the Agrace HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg, with her family at her side. Marian was born on March 3, 1925, in Belleville to Casper and Virgie Wallom. She graduated from Belleville High School in 1943, and married the love of her life, Jack Adams in March of 1944. They set up residence in Belleville, and both worked for the Belleville Recorder, which Jack's parents had owned since 1939. In 1950, Jack and Marian bought the Recorder from Nena Adams, Jack's mother. They ran the newspaper together for 41 years until it was sold to their daughter and son-in-law. The Recorder was in the Adams family for 68 years. Marian, co-owner of the Recorder and full time mom, also had time to be an involved community member. She was active with the Belleville PTO, Community Club and First United Church of Christ Women's Guild. In her later years, she was a member of the Sugar River Singers, Senior Citizen Advisory Council and on the Belleville Area Cultural Foundation Board. Marian loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the heart and soul of her family. She was an avid sports fan, loving her Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers and Milwaukee Brewers. She also was a tough opponent in euchre.
Marian is survived by her children, Bruce (Sue) Adams of San Francisco, Calif., Ginny (John) Cahalan, Tom Adams, and Wendy (Stuart) Shapiro, all of Belleville. She is further survived by nine grandchildren, Nick Adams, Liz Walsh, Todd Cahalan, Dan Cahalan, Sarah Otto, Anne Shapiro, Josh Shapiro, Courtney Adams and Collin Adams and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack and brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the FIRST UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 130 E. Church Street, Belleville, with visitation from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Belleville Cemetery.
Marian was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was loved by all. The family wishes to thank the Belleville Family Clinic and Agrace HospiceCare staff. A very special heartfelt thank you to Dr. Valerie Gilchrist, our mother's loving and dedicated physician.
