Edna Bastin Donald, 95, of 1803 West Charles died Thursday August 23 at her home.
Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at the Grand Island City Cem.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Livingston Sondermann Funeral Home.
Mrs Basten Donald was born in June 1899 in Kearney to Dr. c. Van Dyck & Adah (Seaman) Basten. She was educated in Bradford Mass Academy, Chevy Chase School in Washington, D.C., Kearney State Teachers College and the Grand Island Baptist College. She married Bruce Stanton Donald on June 3, 1922. Mr. Donald died August 30, 1978.
Mrs. Basten Donald was widely known for her activity in the Republican Party. She held the office of Republican National Committee Women for Nebraska from 1943 to 1965.
During her tenure of office, she served on the arrangements committee for the National Conventions. She was a member of the Executive Committee Republican National Committee and served as National Vice Chairman during the Eisenhower Administration. She was the 1st Nebraska Woman to serve in that capacity.
Mrs. Basten Donald was twice appointed by President Eisenhower to the U.S. Assay Commission. She also served on the National Advisory Committee for planning for the the White House Conference of Aging.
She was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church and an honorary member of the Altrusa Club.
Survivors include one daughter Diana Hammer of San Clemente, Ca and two grandsons.
