Charles H. Adams was the son of Charles and Martha Adams, an African American family in Portland. At least one sibling, Charles' sister Ann/Anna (1854-1855), is also buried at Eastern Cemetery in one of the two sections designated for African Americans. Charles's cause of death varies by source. In the more reliable Mortality Schedule for Portland, COD listed "spinal disease related to fall" while in the vital record COD gave "Typhoid fever" (note that the person immediately below Charles on the mortality schedule died of typhoid fever...perhaps the person who later created the vital record made a simple transcription error). Far more graves for African Americans at Eastern Cemetery are unmarked than marked, so Charles' exact plot location within the designated patch is unknown.
