A Quiet Hero

Mort and his twin sister Mary grew up in the North End of Tacoma and graduated from Stadium in 1950. Mort then studied engineering at the University of Michigan where he also met his wife Joan. They were married in the University Chapel on January 28, 1954. Shortly after moving to Seattle in 1955, Mort was drafted by the Army to help rebuild Korea. After completing his military service, he began a successful career with Gardner Engineering, eventually serving as its president.
