Pro Football Player and Hockey Coach. He played in the National Football League as a halfback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, from 1955 to 1957 and Washington Redskins in 1958. Despite the chance to play another year in the NFL, he accepted a temporary position at Bowdoin College, Maine as a hockey coach. Over the next 24 seasons he went on to lead the Bowdoin Polar Bears hockey team to four ECAC Division II titles as head coach. From 1969 to 1983, his teams qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference playoffs every year but one and compiled a record of 326-210-11. He was named national college division coach of year three times, became Bowdoin's athletic director and retired from that position in 1998. He has also been inducted into the Andover Hall of Fame, the Northeastern University Hall of Fame, and the Maine Sports Hall of Fame. In 2002, he was an inaugural inductee of Bowdoin College's Athletic Hall of Honor.
