MRS. D. P. GODFREY
Another Old Resident Has Gone to Her Long Rest

Mrs. D.P. Godfrey died at her home at Pleasant Valley at 2 o'clock Thursday of a complication of diseases from which she had been suffering since last July.
Mrs. Godfrey was one of the oldest residents of this section. Her maiden name was Amanda M. Hicks. She was born in the town of Great Valley, this county, September 9, 1821, and was consequently in her seventieth year. She was a daughter of Abel and Jane Hicks, pioneer settlers of the county. On October 5, 1842, she was united in marriage to David P. Godfrey, at that time a young man, owning one of the largest and best farms in this section, situated about a mile north of the village. It has since been appropriately named Pleasant Valley, and has constituted the happy home of Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey from that time to this.
During the half century of their married life eight children were born to them., six of whom survive. They are Mrs. Charles Oosterhoudt and Orrin W., Frank N., I. Melvin, Elmer N. and Fred W. Godfrey, all of whom reside in this city or vicinity. The deceased was the second wife of Mr. Godfrey and one son, Elisaph D., by his first wife, also survives.
Mrs. Godfrey had been a member of the First M.E. church of this city during the whole of her residence here. She was an earnest and devout christian woman, a faithful and devoted wife and a fond and loving mother, and her whole life has been such as to endear her to all with whom she came in contact. Her death will be mourned by a large circle of friends and acquaintances.
The interment was at Mount View cmemetery.
