Obadiah Higbee was probably born in Middlesex County, NJ, and the DAR and SAR have accepted applications from descendants, which said that he served as a private in the 2nd Regiment of the Middlesex Co. NJ Militia during the Revolution, citing "NJ, Rev War Slips: Single citations of the NJ DOD Materials, FHL Rolls #569690 & #596691." See the image at the left.
He married Anna May Brower, 9 Feb 1763, near New Brunswick, NJ, and they moved their family to a farm near Finleyville, PA, about 1784, buying a farm near Castle Shannon about ten years later. He made his will on 24 Dec 1808, and it was proved and recorded on 18 Feb 1809, indicating that he died between those dates. I have approximated it as Jan 1809, although some sources say 6 Jun 1808, which would have been impossible. He and Anna were buried in their farm cemetery.
Obadiah and Ann had 11 children:
Mary (Higbee) Riggs
Sarah (Higbee) Applegate
Abigail (Higbee) Wright
Stephen Higbee
Joseph Higbee
Benjamin Higbee
Rhoda (Higbee) Hull
William Higbee
Obadiah Higbee
Anna (Higbee) Fletcher
Samuel Higbee
Note: All graves were ordered to be re-interred from the Higbee Burial Plot to South Side Cemetery in Pittsburgh, Pa., by the Allegheny County Common Pleas Court, 14 Sept 1970. When asked about the location of the grave there in 2012, South Side Cemetery's office replied:
"To whom it may concern;
As to the knowledge and records here at South Side Cemetery there was never a transfer of a cemetery from Bethel Park to here;however just this family name has been re interred here on December 28,1970
There are several Higbees located here....
Section H lot 121....Elizabeth Higbee,Infant Higbee,John Higbee,Jospeh Higbee,Laura Higbee,Mary Ann Higbee,Obediah Higbee,and Ruth Higbee
Hope this helps.
