For a period of time he was employed at the McDonald Observatory (part of the University of Texas system) in the Davis mountains of west Texas.
He was a longtime member of the Austin Astronomical Society & didn't attend monthly meetings, but many knew him from various events at Canyon of the Eagles on Lake Buchanan near Burnet. He is remembered for his Volkswagen camper, his usual attire of overalls, and his love of conversation with whoever was around. He once brought his kitten out to Eagle Eye Observatory, unknowingly, because it had stowed away in his camper & Harden did not realize until he was well on his way to COE.
He had great understanding of astronomy, especially of the basics, information that others had forgotten or never known. He loved to share that knowledge, especially with kids.
Harden had quite a sense of humor; sometimes his jokes were corny, but he showed he was "with it" by sharing astronomy-themed XKCD comics with members in the Yahoo group.
He was an Amateur radio operator (W4YND) for decades & enjoyed the camaraderie with others in person & on-air.
