CHARLESTON - Preston Blake Alford, 70, of Charleston, a former resident of Marion and a retired sales manager for Smith and Smith Trucking Co. of Charleston, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church in Marion. Burial, directed by Smith Collins Funeral Home, will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Alford was born in Marion, a son of Henry Monroe Alford and Carrie Belle Tanner Alford. He was Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. He received five Bronze Star Medals, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal.
He was a life member of Clinton Masonic Lodge in Marion. He was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Charleston and was a former member of First United Methodist Church in Marion.
Surviving are his wife, Hilda Bullock Lemmon Alford; two sons, Gerald Blake Alford of Austin, Texas and Donald Preston Alford of Camp Lejeune, N.C.; a stepson, Ward Lemmon of Germantown, Tenn; a brother, James Monroe Alford of North Charleston; a sister, Mrs. McKeevie Alford Dudley of Bennettsville; several grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
