He attended school in Willow River and Dunwoody School in Minneapolis. He had been a Hermantown resident for the past 41 years. He married Louise Ann Moe on Dec. 31, 1939, in Duluth.
He was a member of the Salvation Army, was a great gardener and farmer and loved to hunt and fish. He retired from St. Scholastica where he was a custodial engineer for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandsons Todd Robert Zywicki and Jesse Robert Tesser; and his wife of 61 years, Louise, who died March 14, 2000.
He is survived by his children: Robert (Cindy), Lawrence (Judy), James (Darlyne), Carol (Richard) Allan, Laura (Larry) Gower, Diane (Dennis) Tesser, and Duane (fiancee Kristy Allen); sisters: Blanche (Bob) Vanneste, Louise Balut, Evelyn (Glen) Weiher, and Florence (Jack) Jesberg; brothers: Don (Judy), and Ernest (Lou); grandchildren: Tawnya, Jonathan, Aaron, Jessica, Cory, Carrie, Linda, Jeremy, Jason, Michelle, Jamie, Chad, Bridgette, Julie, Justin, Jamie, Anden, Darren and Denann; and 11 great-grandchildren.
