Priest William Choka

He was also known as P Vilen Choka.
He attended college in Kromeris, run by Piarist Monks and was a student at the Seminary in Kromeris. Theology was studied in Olocore an he was ordained on July 5, 1866. He was a Chaplain in the town of Hranice Moravia until he came to Chicago, Ill and on Nov 28, 1871 he became Rector of St John's, the second largest Bohemian parish.
He established in 1876 the Parish of St Prokop. He moved out of the Parish of St Johns to St Prokop @ 18th & Allport Street. He directed St Prokops for 9 years, building a beautiful church costing $50,000 and worked to establish a parish school.
This is the best attended Bohemian school in the US.
When Bohemian Benedictines took over the parish of St Prokops, he moved too Omaha, Nebr where in 1885 he directed St Vadovs (Venuslaus). He made progress at this parish.
In his last years before he died, he lived in St Boniface, Monterrey, Nebr., where he conducted his duties as Vicar General of the Omaha Diocese. This is where he is buried. His obit was printed in the Bohemian Newspaper, Chicago, Illinois.
