John Hunter, 83, Passes At Lane Home

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for John Hunter, 83, who passed away at his home in the Lane community early Friday morning. Services were held at the Lane Methodist Church of which he was a member. Rev. Robert Ridley, of Dallas, officiated, assisted by the pastor. Rev. G. W. Gear. Burial was in the Lane cemetery.

Born November 22, 1868 in Putman County, near Cooksville, Tennessee, he was the son of Joseph and Martha Hunter. He came to Texas in 1889. He was married to Deliah McEntire in 1896. Pallbearers were his grandsons: J. T. and Paul Hunter, Burl and Wilford Sprinkle, Claude Hunter, Jr. and Terry Perkins. He is survived by his wife and 8 children: Edd Hunter, Lubbock; Mrs. C. C. McGuire, Ira and Claude, Celeste; Mrs. E. L. Sprinkle, Trenton; Dee Leonard; Mrs. J. M. Perkins, Dallas, Mrs. L. V. Lee, Fort Worth; two step children, Mrs. C. D. Appleby, Hale Center, C. W. McEntire, Oklahoma City; one brother, G. W. Hunter, Dallas; a sister, Mrs. S. S. Kirby Sherman; 15 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Two sons proceeded him in death.
