Adolphus was the son of Jacob V. & Catherine A. Decker(nee Bowman).

Adolphus is found on the 1870, 1875 & 1880 censuses with Jacob & Catherine.

He played major league baseball for two seasons as catcher with the Philadelphia Nationals team. During the 1896 season, Adolphus made history by being the first catcher to use a padded mitt and moved from the traditional bare handed catcher's position several feet behind the batter to the position baseball fans of today are familiar with, right behind the batter.
