She was born September 10, 1914 near Abilene, the daughter of Ira S. and Marie (Hoffman) Engle. Doris grew up in the New Basel community and graduated from Abilene High School. She worked for many years as secretary to county attorney, John Christner; early in her career, was County Treasurer. She was a member of the first United Methodist Church in Abilene.On June 10, 1960, she married Seth L. Barter in Abilene. He passed away in 1983. Doris is survived by her nieces Joyce Engle of Park City, Kansas, and Sharol Rudolph(Ed) of Nickerson, KS; and her great nephews Dean Rudolph, John Rudolph (Lea), and Martin Rudolph. She was preceded in death by her husband Seth Barter, her brother Herbert and his wife Erma Engle, and her parents.
Burial will be in the Abilene Cemetery. Visitation will be until service time at the funeral home.
