Ruby Elizabeth Gray was the daughter of James Arthur "Art" Gray and Bertha Ann Cotton, who were natives of Winston County, Alabama. She married Charlie R. Escue and they were the parents of five children: Charles D. Escue, Walter Lester Escue, Elizabeth Escue, Woody Escue and Sammy Escue.
