Tom was born at Letcher, SD to Merle and Margaret (Schneider) Case on February 15, 1921. He spent his childhood days in Letcher and then moved to Mitchell where he worked for Barneys Market. He was inducted into the Army in September, 1942 and served in the 363rd field artillery battalion as a radio operator. He made two beach head landings in Leyte and Okinawa. He was discharged in 1945.
Tom married Lela Hutton in Washington State on February 2, 1943 to which four children were born. He worked at the Farmers Elevator for several years and ran the corner station. He also worked at Burns Lumber Company until moving to Mitchell where he worked at Dicus Motors and later sold used cars. He and his dad then worked with his brother, Bill doing construction work. He retired in 1983 and enjoyed making wood crafts in the summer and spent the last 19 winters in Arizona.
He is survived by his wife, Lela; his children: Myrna and husband, Dick Vermeulen, Sioux Falls; Connie and husband, Jerry Moody, Woonsocket; Penny and husband, Larry Hohn, Mitchell and Dean Case, Sioux Falls; fourteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, a sister, Betty and husband Gene Schuster; two brothers, Jack and wife, Doris and Ray, all of Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Bill; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Case and Leora Case and one great grandson, Gage Priebe.
