DAVID ABBEY, son of John and Catherine (North) Abbey, born at Masonville, N. Y., October 25, 1809; died in New York City, September 6, 1881; buried in Montrepose Cemetery, Kingston, wliere nearly all of this family have been buried.
Mr. Abbey was overseer on the dock of the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company at Rondout for several years, later purchased an interest in a ferry boat on the East River and then one in the steamer Madison, which he ran to Albany for a while and one season to Coney Island. He afterward took charge in turn of the Cornell Line Norwich, then a freight and passenger boat, the North America, the steamer Manhattan of the Cornell Line, superintending the work of construction on the latter and acting as first Captain. He was well and favorably known by freighters in the back country and controlled a large amount of trade. He was very popular as a captain, and solicitous for the safety and comfort of his passengers. During the last few years of his life he held a position with the Elevated Road at the Battery in New York City,

Married (2) in Saugerties, N. Y., September, 1840, ELIZABETH CORNELIA ADAMS, born in Hudson, November 14, 1809, sister of his first wife; died in Saugerties, May 24, 1902.
