Gary "Moe" Moenter, age 69, died on April 8, 2012 at Scott Memorial Hospital.

He was born on April 9, 1942 in Batesville, Indiana, the son of the late William and Vaunetta (Heidt) Moenter. He was a 1960 graduate of Batesville High School and was in the last graduating class of 1964 from the former Ball State Teachers College before it became Ball State University with a major in Social Studies and minor in English.

Moe went back to Ball State University for the next 3 summers earning his Masters Degree in Social Studies and English. He spent the next 2 summers at Ball State earning his certification in Library Science. He started his career in 1964 at Scottsburg Junior High teaching Freshman English. In 1970, the new high school was built and he became Librarian there for 41 years until his retirement in June of 2010. In March of 2012 the Scott County School District II Board of Trustees named the Scottsburg High School Media Center the Gary W. Moenter Media Center in honor of his many years as librarian. Moe sponsored the Hi - Y Club for 44 years at Scottsburg High School, was an avid antique collector, served as treasurer of Scottsburg Educational Loan Fund (SELF) and on the Board of Trustees and treasurer of the Scott County Public Libraries and was a member of the American Martyrs Catholic Church in Scottsburg.

Survivors include two sisters, Gayla Lecher (Dennis) of Greensburg, Indiana and Ava Moenter of San Francisco, California; two nephews and three nieces.

Graveside Services will be at 4:00 PM on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Batesville, Indiana. Memorial Contributions: Scottsburg Educational Loan Fund or the Scott County Public Library Building Fund c/o Collins Funeral Home, 465 W. McClain Ave., Scottsburg, IN 47170.
