Isabella Smith, youngest child of Joel Smith and Isabella Elizabeth Marshall Smith (Dec 9, 1846-Feb 22, 1936), married Ossian Freeborn Simpson, of Laurens. Mr Simpson was born April 22, 1840, son of Dr John Wells Simpson and Eliza Adams Simpson.

He studied law with his brothers, John Wistar Simpson and William D Simpson, and was admitted to the bar in South Carolina and later to the bar of Georgia. He and his wife removed to Atlanta in 18 67 and spent the rest of their lives there. Both are buried in Atlanta.

They had 3 daughters, one died as an infant and the other 2 were Azile Simpson and Belle Simpson.
