Alvin Claus Ivers, 83, of Corvallis, Oregon, died of natural causes Friday, August 21, 1998, at the Corvallis home of his daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Jerry Holroyd.
He was born May 23, 1915, to Emil and Esther (Schwartz) Ivers in Minden, Iowa, 33 miles east of Omaha, Nebraska. He attended local schools.
He served in the Army during World War II, from August 15, 1941 until October 25, 1945. He married Grace Irene Boege on November 28, 1946, in Oakland, Iowa. They continued to live in Iowa until moving to Oregon in 1955. They had three children during their marriage, Dennis Alvin, Joyce Elaine, and Keith Alan Ivers.
Mr. Ivers was a farmer his entire life and a steward of the land.
During his career, he worked for Brahs Auction of Corvallis, Henry Failing estates (which later became the Finley Wildlife Refuge south of Corvallis) and Oregon State University Dairy. He worked for Jones Farms when he retired at the age of 70.
After his retirement, he manufactured a variety of items made from wood that wife Grace painted. They would sell them at flea markets. He loved yard sales and over the years had compiled a collection of odd, unique and useful gadgets from the past.
He also enjoyed gardening and especially liked jade plants and cacti.
Alvin and his twin brother Malvin married sisters, Alvin married Grace Irene Boege and Malvin married Minnie Mildred Boege.
Alvin and Grace were united in marriage November 28, 1946 in Oakland, Pottawattamie County, Iowa. They were the parents of three children:

Joyce Elaine Ivers,
* married Jerry Phillip Holroyd.
Keith Alan Ivers,
* married Janet Lyn Castleberry.
