COURIER-JOURNAL OBITUARY - 04/13/2004 - NEW ALBANY -- Martha Edna (Scharf) Holden, 85, died Saturday evening, April 10, 2004, St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD. She had been a longtime resident of Clarksville, IN, and New Albany. She was retired from the Social Security Administration in New Albany. She was preceded in death by husband, James E. Holden Sr.; two sons, James E. Holden Jr. and Joseph Holden; her parents, Adolph Scharf Sr. and Edna Scharf; and two sisters, Frances Mildred Scharf Martin and Helen Louise Scharf Beswick. She is survived by one son, S. Craig Holden; one daughter, Beverley Holden Johns; and three grandchildren, Lauren, Allison and Christopher Holden. She is also survived by two brothers, Adolph Scharf Jr. and Edward Scharf. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2004, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Clarksville, with burial to follow in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Generations Funeral Home, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany. Expressions of sympathy in her honor may be made as memorial contributions to Catholic Charities, 320 Cathedral St., Baltimore, MD 21201. (Please reference the name of the deceased with your gift.)
