COURIER-JOURNAL OBITUARY - 04/13/2004 - NEW ALBANY -- Martha Edna (Scharf) Holden, 85, died Saturday evening, April 10, 2004, St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD. She had been a longtime resident of Clarksville, IN, and New Albany. She was retired from the Social Security Administration in New Albany. She was preceded in death by husband, James E. Holden Sr.; two sons, James E. Holden Jr. and Joseph Holden; her parents, Adolph Scharf Sr. and Edna Scharf; and two sisters, Frances Mildred Scharf Martin and Helen Louise Scharf Beswick. She is survived by one son, S. Craig Holden; one daughter, Beverley Holden Johns; and three grandchildren, Lauren, Allison and Christopher Holden. She is also survived by two brothers, Adolph Scharf Jr. and Edward Scharf. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2004, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Clarksville, with burial to follow in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Generations Funeral Home, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany.
