"John Doyle, Died Oct. 24, 1854, Aged 37 yrs."
This John Doyle was long thought by Findagravers to be the husband of Fanny Doyle, but recent research proves otherwise.
There were men named John Doyle living in a number of places in the United States in the mid-1800s. One of them was in St. Joseph Co., IN. He started buying and selling property in and next to Mishawaka in 1841. His last land transaction was on July 19, 1854, about three months before he died. The land was deeded to Joseph Kurtz which research shows was the brother of his wife. (Amongst other sources, immigration records include that on June 3, 1844, Emerenz Kurtz, 18, and Joseph Kurtz, 21, arrived in New York from Wurtemburg aboard the S. S. Zurich.)
The records of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka include the marriage of John Doyle to Emaline Kurtz on Feb 12, 1849; the baptism of their daughter Mary on Feb 24, 1850; and the funeral of John Doyle on Oct. 25, 1854. The funeral record says that he was buried in the church cemetery which other church records show, at that time, was Cedar Grove Cemetery. (St. Joseph Cemetery didn't have its first burial until 1863 and the land wasn't deeded to the Catholic Church until 1867.)
