Elisabeth Transue was born 24 Sep 1773 in Schoeneck, Northampton County, Pennsylvania; daughter of Martin and Christina (Ehrenhardt) Liebert.

Elisabeth was united in marriage with Joseph Craft Clewell; one of twelve children born to George Craft and Anna Maria (Kuechley) Clewell, Sr. Elisabeth was his second wife.

George and his first wife, Maria Magdalena Knauss, who passed away in 1803, were the parents of seven children.

Joseph served his country during the American Revolution, a Private in 3 Company, 2nd Battalion, Pennsylvania Militia.

Joseph and Elisabeth were the parents of nine children:

1. Joseph Craft Jr. born 1805 married Sarah A. Daney
2. Beatus born and died 1806
3. David born 1806 married Rebecca Miksch
4. Christian born 1808 married Dianna Klotz
5. Judith (1809-1828)
6. Susanna Elizabeth born 1810 married George Miksch
7. Henry born 1811 married Wilhelmina Hoeber
8. Anna Maria born 1814 married John Fehr
9. Julian born 1817 married Ludwig Wolf

Joseph passed away 30 Jun 1832 in Salisbury Township, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania at the age of 71 years. He was laid to rest in God's Acre Moravian graveyard in Emmaus.
