Alabama, Deaths and Burials Index, 1881-1974 Name: Maggie (Acker) Pettit Birth Date: 14 May 1872 [should be 1862] Death Date: 2 Nov 1939 Place: Heflin, Cleburne, Alabama Age: 67 Marital Status: Widowed Gender: Female Father: Frank Acker. b. Spartomering, N. C. [Spartanburg, SC] Mother: Marjorie McCain, b. Talladega County, Alabama FHL Film: 190858

According to Lula, after the death of her father, George Mark, her mother, Maggie, married a widower, A. J. Pettit, and moved to San Angelo, Texas for him to find work as a bricklayer. They later moved to Oklahoma City for the same reason. Andrew J. Pettit died there and is buried in an unmarked grave in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Maggie is buried in Forrest Cemetery: Sec. 2, Blk 6, Lot 180 N 12, Spot 002. She wanted to be buried next to Mr. Pettit in Oklahoma City. Lula said when her aunt called to tell her of her mother's wishes, she replied "You ship her here and I'll have the train ship her right back." Therefore, she is buried next to her sister, Estelle Vise. Lula did not get along with her mother and hated her step-father, Mr. Pettit, and was not going to be out any money on the burying of her mother. by MLS
