Grave registration card issued listing widow, Louise Brown, who had remarried at the time the grave registration was issued. No specific place given for cemetery or tombstone issued for Pvt. Frederick Baker, who died of small pox while serving in the Civil War, Co. D. 179th, Reg. , OH. Vol. Inf. At this point it appears he is among the unknown soldiers buried in Nashville during that period of the Civil War

Frederick Baker enlisted as a Private on September 15, 1864 at the age of 41; and was assigned to Company D, 179th Infantry Regiment, Ohio, on 26 Sep 1864.
While serving, he died of smallpox on Mar 4, 1865 at Nashville, TN in Pest House Hospital # 11, in charge of Dr. G W France, and reports say these infected patients were buried in a Pest House Cemetery. There were several hospitals in Nashville that were used specifically for soldiers and citizens who had contagious diseases.
Grave registration was issued with no specific place of burial, nor was a tombstone issued.
Frederick Baker was born in Monroe County, WV. about 1823, the son of Joseph L Baker and Sarah Arnott. He migrated with his parents to Gallia Co OH by 1840. He was married to Louisa A Roberts on July 20, 1843, in Gallia Co, OH., and they were the parents of at least 9 children.

research note: There were three Federal cemeteries in Nashville. There was a smallpox cemetery (with 1,524 burials most unmarked and unknown) in the general vicinity of the smallpox quarantine hospitals. This cemetery was just north of Charlotte Pike around its intersection with 19th Avenue North; the modern Sonic Drive-In is downhill from the location.
