Josie outlived 4 of her children. As of 2012 only two survive and they are 90 and 88 years old. My mother Eleanor died at the age of 91 July 27, 2011.
Josie's father William Alexander Leonard was a Postmaster at Groseclose, VA an ordained Methodist minister and a sunday school teacher. Both her Mother and Father lived to be 89 years old. Her siblings were Paul, Dwight, and Nellie. Nellie never married, she lived to be around 92 years old. Paul died around the age of 69 and lived most of his life in Roanoke, VA, Dwight lived in Arlington, VA and his wife name was Mae, they never were blessed with children.
My Granny could make some of the most delicious home made bread and especially home made "salt rising" bread..we made "milk toast" out of it...my mother would make it and it was never quit the same...was good but not the same...my granny taught my mother how to cook and both were good country cooks...I think having an old wood stove helped the bread to rise much better...they made the yeast from potatoes and corn meal...The Catron and Leonard were hard working farm people and each I am sure sweat water and blood. They lived off the land and God was good to them, even though life had many deaths, disappointments, births and marriages. She is truly missed.
