JOSEPH BOHON.
Joseph Bohon was born in Mercer county, Kentucky, on the 20th day of January, 1833. He departed this life in the late afternoon of July 5, 1924, having reached the advanced age of 91 years, 5 months and 15 days.
When he was two years of age his parents moved from Kentucky to Missouri and made their new home in the then virgin forest of western Marion County on land obtained direct from the U. S. Government. In this home he spent his childhood and youth as one of a family of ten children, of whom there were four brothers, James W., Abram B, Clark, and Isaac G., and five sisters, Mary W., Katherine, Jemima, Nancy and George Ann. Of this family of ten children he was third from the youngest, and was the last survivor.
He obtained his early education in the typical log school house of the pioneer days, and later attended college at Philadelphia
On February 20, 1862, he was united in marriage to Maria Louise Smith. To this union there were born thirteen children, James Richard, Elizabeth Smith of LaBelle, Susan Bowles, Homer of Odgen, Utah; Ella M. Dinwiddie, Nelsonville; Nannie E. Vanarsdall, Woodford W., Oscar, Katie M. McElroy of Emden, Howard of Bon Ami, Louisiana; George Walter, and Ira V. of Nelsonville. Of this family the wife and seven children survive home. In addition to these, he is survived by 25 grandchildren and 16 greatgrandchildren. For 82 years he was a member of New Providence Presbyterian church.
He was possessed of an unusual mind and a wonderful memory, and was a most interesting conversationalist. His home was known far and wide for its hospitality.
