Ben A Sturm, 68, 1740 Merrill Ave., Wausau, died Saturday morning at his home. He was a long-time town chairman, Marathon County Board member and former County Board chairman.

Mr. Sturm served as chairman of the town of Maine from 1962-1971, as a County Board supervisor from 1962-1972 and as County Board chairman in 1963 and 1964.

While on the County Board, he served as chairman of the road and bridge committee. Other communities he served on included conservation, land appraisals and zoning, finance, personnel, audit, agricultural, health and rules.

Mr. Sturm was president of the former Wausau Area Fire Commission, now the Wausau Area Police and Fire Commission, a past director of the Stettin Mutual Insurance Co. and an elder at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau.

Mr. Sturm was a contractor with the Wisconsin Public Service Corp. from 1936-1950.

He was born March 29, 1912, in the town of Maine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Sutrm. He married the former Esther Gutknecht in the town of Berlin, June 16, 1934. She survives.

Survivors besides his wife in lude two daughters, Mrs. Gene (Joyce) Christian, Route 5 Merrill, and Karen 107 Kent St., Wausau; Four Brothers, Harry, Route 5 Merrill, Victor, Route 5 Merrill, Elmer, Route 2 Marathon and Edgar, 1522 Cherry St., Wausau; one sister, Mrs. Angel Baumann, Springfield, Ore., and three grandchildren.
