He was born Aug 20, 1909, in the town of Maine, son of the late Karl and Ida (Saeger) Sturm. He married Viola Zastrow on June 29, 1935, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in the Town of Hamburg. She preceded him in death on Nov 11, 1989.
Elmer farmed in the town of Hamburg until retiring in 1980 he then moved to Wausau where he has been a resident since. Elmer also worked part time for two years and then full-time for 2 1/2 hears as a mail carrier in the town of Hamburg. He enjoyed dancing and played concertina and bass horn for the Merry Melodies.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy (Jim) Claspill, Marathon; a son, John (Kathy) Sturm, Marathon; two grandsons, Ben and Daniel; a sister, Angeline Baumann, Grand Rapids, Minn; and a brother, Edgar (Irma) Sturm, Wausau. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Sturm; a sister, Hertha Neuman; and four brothers, Arthur, Harry, Victor, and Ben Sturm.
Funeral services will be at 3 pm Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, town of Maine. Rev Ronald Winters will officiate Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, town of Maine. Visitation will be from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm, today at Kraemer Funeral Home, Wausau, and again from 2 pm Wednesday until the time of the services at the church.
