Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Israel and Ida (Karotkin) Apter. He graduated from Boston University and he received his Bachelor of Law Degree from Hartford College of Law which is now a part of the University of Connecticut Law School.
He was an Army and Navy Veteran of World War II. He was senior partner at the former law firm of Apter & Nahum in Hartford. He retired in the capacity of counsel to the law firm of Weinstein & Wisser in West Hartford. He was counsel to the City of Hartford Housing Authority. He was a member of the Hartford County, Connecticut State and American Bar Associations.
Mr. Apter was a Trustee and a member of the Board of Regents for the Hartt School of Music. He was a member of the Emanuel Synagogue of West Hartford and a member of the Board of Ados Israel Synagogue of Hartford.
He leaves his wife, Mildred (Press) Apter; a son, Len J. Apter of West Hartford; a daughter, Lora Brody and her husband, Attorney David Brody of Brookline, MA; a sister, Esther Cohen of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren, Jonathan S. Brody and his wife, Tsai Li, Max Apter Brody and Samuel Louis Brody; and a great-grandson, Benjamin Jacob Brody.
Funeral services will be held TODAY, 11 a.m., in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with interment in the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, Wethersfield.
