After his wife Elizabeth Van Dyke died in 1835 in Indiana, Thomas married Druscillia Kimmel in 1837. Thomas and Druscillia sold their land in Putnam Co. IN, on June 1, 1837 and moved with his four children to the Platte Purchase, Buchanan Co. MO. Arriving in the fall of of 1837. They took claim south of Agency Ford on the Platte River.
Thomas Brinton of Buchanan Co. Missouri was given a Patent Deed certificate by the land office at Plattsburg, Mo., for 193.42 acres and 160 acres being the NW 1/4 of Sec. 4, Twp. 55, Range 34. This was April 1, 1846.
