John Hungate was called Colonel Hungate as was the custom in Kentucky of men of prominence. He did not have the rank of colonel in the War of 1812... The Adjutant General's office - War Department, Washington, March 27, 1920: "John Hungate, Private in Captain Samuel Roberson's Company 5, Regiment Kentucky, Mtd. Vol. Mil. (Renick's) from August 25, 1813, expiration of service November 8, 1813 with rank of Paymaster for the 5th Regiment and died November 9, 1813. Signed P C Hunt, the Adjutant General."

the one headstone is wrong it reads Col John Hungate. he was a private and paymaster.
