Thomas Hamlin [Sr] established his home in 1824 on the plantation he called "Scotland" two miles east of Leaksville (now Eden), in Rockingham County, North Carolina. It was on the north side of the Dan River at the mouth of Matrimony Creek. It is said that Thomas was buried on this plantation in a family cemetery on the hill above the old spring, as were his wife, Mary Ligon Stainback and three of his children: Thomas [Jr], Lucy, and Charles. Likely two grandchildren are interred here as well, Pattie and Edward Reamey Hamlin.
