His parents were Edmond Charles Genet (1763-1834) Minister from the first French Republic, 1793-4 and Cornelia Tappen Clinton (1774-1810) daughter of Governor George Clinton (1739-1812) and his wife Sarah Cornelia Petrus Tappen (1744-1800)

His parents are buried in East Greenbush Cemetery. The family had moved to Greenbush in spring of 1803.

"Born at Jamaica South, Long Island on the 14th day of September 1797.
He was baptised by the Rev. George Faitout, Minister of the Presbyterian Church the 10th of October 1797 at the house of his parents. He died May 19, 1802 at Jamaica, L.I."
-from the ledger his father wrote that is in the archives of the NY Historical Society, NYC.
