Patrick McCole Chilton Times May 23, 1898

Died – The Times is again called upon to chronicle the death of one of the early settlers of the town of Chilton. At midnight, on Thursday, Patrick McCole, one of the leading citizens of that town, passed from this earth to that home whence no traveler returns.
Mr. McCole was born in the state of Ohio, June 6, 1838. At the age of 14 years he came to Wisconsin with his parents, who had purchased a tract of woodland in the dense forest, some five miles north of this city. He assisted his father and brother in clearing the land and suffered all the privations of the early pioneer. In 1869 he was united in marriage to Catherine McLean, and was the father of nine children, seven of whom survive him. He was a man of high moral character and his influence for good was felt throughout the entire community in which he resided. As a neighbor he was accommodating and sociable and gained the esteem of all. He was a devoted husband and loving father and was idolized by his family.
He was an upright citizen and represented his town as chairman at one time. He was a firm believer in the religious teaching of the Catholic Church, and for a number of years was a trustee of St. Augustine's church, the building of which edifice was largely due to his influence and from which he will be sadly missed. For the past four years he has been an invalid, suffering from diabetes and weak lings. Since March 1st, last, he has been unable to leave his home.
He leaves a widow, four sons and three daughters to mourn his death. The funeral will take place Monday from St. Augustine's church.
