Sylvester "Silver" was the son of the farmer George Asperger and Maria "Mary" Kreps. Both of his parents were immigrates from Hungary. They raised their family and then died in Caro, Michigan.

His hobbies included: fishing, gardening and working with stained glass.

Silver married Elizabeth A. Toth on 7 Jun 1932 in Cuyahoga Co., Ohio and they are reported to have had two children.

One of their children was named Sylvester Charles Asperger Jr. (b.1932, d.2006) and he is reported to also be buried in the Greenlawn Memory Gardens cemetery.
