Jane Drake was born December 23, 1836 at Amity Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania, near Wattsburg, where she spent her childhood. Jane married Julius Merriot Applebee January 24, 1860 in a ceremony performed by Allen Ensworth, J.P., and they had six children: Wellington Merriot, Mary Jane, Emma Emily, Jay Burr, Flora May and Frank Drake. In 1867, Julius and Jane purchased a farm at Lake Pleasant. They were industrious at farming and successful in life. They raised a family that did them credit. Eleven months after the death of her husband, Jane died at the home of her daughter Emma in Arbuckle, Erie County, PA, on February 27, 1928 at the age of ninety one. Funeral services were held at Emma's home on February 29 at 1:00 P.M. and her body was then interred at the Waterford Cemetery next to her husband. In addition to her husband of 67 years, Jane was preceded in death by her daughter Flora. She was survived by 3 sons, Wellington, Jay and Frank (Estella); 2 daughters, Mrs. A.C. (Mary Jane) Sherman and Mrs. Willaway Noble (Emma) Titus; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
