Alois Binder, 80, one of the oldest Druids in New Orleans and who up to a few years ago was one of the most prominent bakers in the Third District died Wednesday evening following a brief illness. Services will be conducted in the residence, 1706 Elysian Fields Avenue at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon by the Druids and the Rev. Mr. McNeil of the Claiborne Avenue Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Binder was born in Baden Baden, Germany, March 26, 1844 and came to New Orleans 63 years ago. More than 40 years ago he established the Railroad Bakery at Elysian Fields and Derbigny Street known throughout the entire Third District. He retired from active business a few years ago. He is survived by a widow, who was Miss Eliza Smith, and one daughter, Mrs. Walter P. Brandin, and two sons Charles Binder and L.H. Binder. Mr. Binder was at one time noble arch of Friendship Grove No. 23.
