Jack Walker, resident of Tonkawa, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012, at Ponca City Medical Center. He was 78.

The service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, in the chapel of Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Janice Sharp officiating. Burial will follow in Tonkawa IOOF Cemetery under the direction of the Anderson Funeral Home of Tonkawa.

Jack was born June 29, 1933, to Lawrence and Maymie Herd Walker in Tonkawa.

He attended and graduated from Oaks High School in 1952. He married Viva Littlefield on Oct. 8, 1954, in Sand Springs. He served in the Army from 1956 to 1958, stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He lived in Tulsa and worked as a Tulsa Body Works Mechanic and Dowell Welder.

On weekends Jack was an auctioneer at the Tulsa Cow Palace and sold many furniture auctions. He moved to Tonkawa in 1969 to manage the Tonkawa Sale Barn. In 1974 he managed the Kay County Farm Center. He sold at various auctions in Oklahoma City, Stillwater and Perry.

In 1978 he was a contestant at the World Livestock Auctioneer Championship held in Marshall, Mo. Also in 1978, he opened his own business, Tonkawa Muffler Shop. Jack enjoyed coon hunting, going to his grandchildren's sports activities and homemade ice cream.

He is survived by his son, Gary Walker of Tonkawa; daughter, Janet Davis and husband Joe of Tonkawa; grandchildren, Rhiannon Hazen and husband Bryce of Protection, Kan., and Garin Davis of Tonkawa; two brothers, Bob Walker of Dallas, Texas, and Dale Walker of Tonkawa; and one sister, Judy Cox of Haskell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and five siblings.

Casket bearers will be Danny Applegate, Jerry Applegate, Jimmy Owens, Randy Owens, David Walker, Steve Gessel, Doug Walker and Dyce Applegate.
