Helen was the second of five children. She graduated from Berwick High School in 1937. She was twice married and divorced, first to Antonio Venditti, then to Wilbur "Pete" Spaid, and had no children. She retired in 1986 from Berwick Industires where she had worked as a traffic manager for 41 years. She was a member of Berwick Christian Chruch, the McHenarian Sunday School class, and had taught Sunday School.
