A Remarkable Record for Longevity.
The interest that is manifested of late in longevity calls the attention of this community to the life of Mrs. Margaret Arnold, who resides with her son, Henry Arnold, on a well-kept thousand-acre farm, about seven miles east of Washington Court-House, Ohio. The old lady is actually one hundred and twelve years of age.

Her maiden name was Margaret Kiser, and she was born near Richmond, Va., June 4, 1777, just one year after the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

In 1818 Margaret moved to Ohio and located at Chillicothe. She was married when a handsome miss to Frederick Arnold, and became the mother of five children, two daughters and three sons, the two youngest sons being twins. One of the twins, William Arnold, is living at Greenland, Boss County, Ohio, aged seventy years. The husband of Mrs. Arnold died more than half a century ago, and she has ever since remained a widow.

About seventy years ago, Mrs. Arnold began smoking tobacco, and kept up this practice until six months ago. She still occasionally calls for her pipe, but when her pipe is lighted and brought to her she cannot smoke. She has an excellent appetite, and eats everything that young and vigorous people do. She complains of nothing that is set before her. Her digestion is good, and, strange as it may seem, in all her long life she never had a physician called to wait on her and never lost a meal on account of sickness.

Mrs. Arnold is five feet two inches in height, and weighs 110 pounds. She has not worked any for more than three years, when she knit a pair of stockings for her little grandson.

The stocking have been preserved as relics, to show what excellent work the old lady performed at the age of 108 years. There are four members of her father's family more than 100 years of age. The oldest sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Hillard, was at last accounts still living in Lynn County, Iowa, having been twice married. She is three years older than Mrs. Arnold, and is therefore 115 years of age. The other sister, Mrs. John Bailey, is living in Dakota, at the age of 109 years. The old lady is in good health, has good eyesight and is able to walk about in the yard. William Kiser, the only living brother, still resides at the old home place, near Richmond, Va., aged 104 years.

We doubt if there is a family in the United States that can show such a record for longevity. Ages:
Elizabeth Hillard 115
Margaret Arnold 112
Susan Bailey 109
William Kiser 104

Total number of years = 440.
Average age = 110.

This array of figures would be difficult to believe if we did not know them to be correct. Each of these centenarians has lived under the Administration of every President of the United States and during most of the eventful periods of the nation's history. - Cincinnati Enquirer.
