The Renovo Record March 5 1885:

DIED

Kepler- very suddenly at Shintown on Sunday, Mr. Abraham Kepler aged 58 years and 7 days. He retired to his bed with the usual good health and died suddenly at 1 o'clock. His death is deeply regretted. He was a prominent citizen and beloved by all who knew him.

The death of Mr. Abraham Kepler:

Mr. Abraham Kepler, and old and respected citizen of this place died on Sunday morning. Mr. Kepler had been to church in the evening apparently in good health. He enjoyed himself immensely participating in the revival meeting which is progress here. After services he returned home with Rev. Glenn, the minister in charge. After they were home the Reverend gentleman and Mr.Kepler conversed on different subjects until 12 o'clock. When the Reverend retired Mr. Kepler remarked that he was not sleepy yet. Hedid not go to sleep. His wife dozed only to be answered by a slight moan from Mr. Kepler. She tried to awaken him but could get no answer. Becoming alarmed she called the rest of the family. Two of the boys Beroth & George saw him breath his last. His oldest son H H Kepler was in Lock Haven and was called. Mr. Kepler's death was caused by apoplexy.

The funeral was the largest ever witnessed in this place He was buried on his premises on a piece of ground selected by his family as a burying ground. The funeral sermon was preached by the Rev. W A Stephens of Renovo. The pallbearers were Jt Simpson of Renovo, Edward Van Riper, Samuel Wertz,and Casper & Barber Werts of Westport.

Mrs. James Brooks of Kettle Creek and Mrs. Lucinda Grugan of Glen Union were here attending the funeral of their brother.

Mr & Mrs Hugh Smith & Miss Sophie Lininger of West Keating & Mr. & Mrs. R H Smith of Cook's Run brothers & sisters-in-law of Mr. Kepler were here to pay the last rites of respect. Mr. George Cannon and sister Hazeltine of East Keating were attending the funeral of their uncle.
