Sidney Ross Ritchie, 60 years old, of 19 Tilley Avenue, an employee of the Newport Electric Corp. power plant for 20 years and a truant officer for 15 years before that died on 20 November 1964 at Newport Hospital. He was born in Newport on July 3, 1903. He had served as a census taker for the schools and was a member of Local 335, Brotherhood of Utility Workers of New England. During WW II Sidney counseled many young boys that were going off to war. Sidneys middle name (Ross) is reported to be his fathers mothers maidan name. He also was at one time a member of the Republican City Committee in Newport. Sidneys funeral took place from the Memorial Funeral Home to St. Joseph Church. Burial was in St. Columbas Cemetery.
